Cleaning your Sex Toys

When using any type of sex toy, it is important to know that is clean and safe. We hope our guide will help keep you safe and your sex toys in good condition and ready for action.

General Cleaning Information

Cleaning all of your toys before and after use will ensure good hygiene and sexual health. The material your toy is made of will determine how you should go about cleaning it. There are special cleaners for sex toys on the market. If you choose to use on of these cleaners, make sure that will not not irritate your skin. An quick and easy test is to spray or rub a bit of the cleanser on the inside of your wrist. If it burns or itches after a couple of minutes, you should probably look for another brand.

Plastic

Plastic sex toys are, on the whole, hard and non-porous, so won't absorb dirt or liquids. These can be cleaned by wiping down with a clean cloth using an anti-bacterial soap and warm water. You can also use one of the sex toy cleaners on the market, such as Toy Cleaner by Toy Joy.

Please note that over time, plastic can crack and trap dirt and bacteria. So always inspect your toy before use.

Rubber / Latex / Jelly

These materials are porous and so can absorb dirt and bacteria. Its best to clean them by wiping down with a clean cloth and using a good anti-bacterial soap and warm water. Avoid scrubbing them clean with a brush as the material is soft and so may scratch or tear easily. Also avoid using harsh soaps or abrasive cleaners as these can also damage the toy.

With jelly toys, never use boiling water, abrasive cleaners or alcohol as they will dissolve the jelly rendering it useless.

Silicone

Silicone toys are non-porous and so won't absorb dirt and bacteria. You can clean these toys using an anti-bacterial soap and warm / hot water, boil them for about 2 minutes or even clean them in a dish washer. It the toy has a vibrator or other electrical / machanical parts, don't boil these as it may damage the toy. You can also use a cleaner designed for sex toys such as Toy Cleaner by Toy Joy.

Leather

Leather products such as harnesses and straps should be treated just like any other leather product. Washed down with a good quality leather foaming cleanser, then scrubbed down with a brush. Then wipe down all of the surfaces with hydrogen peroxide and allow to air dry. Once dry use a leather conditioner to restore it to its natural beauty.

Cyberskin / Ultraskin / Eroskin / Softskin / Cyber Jel-lee / UR3 / Futurotic

These materials and fake skins is a soft and porous. The best / safest method of cleaning is to wipe down with warm water and cloth, but NO soap. After cleaning, leave to air dry. You can also use a specialist cleaner that is designed for the toy in question. No not use any household cleaners as these may damage the material and toy.

Glass

Being non-porous, glass toys can be cleaned by a wide range of methods. The best is simply by using warm water and a good anti-bacterial soap. Never subject glass toys to extreme temperatures.

Nylon

Nylon toys and accessories, such as harnesses, can usually be machine washed or hand washed with anti-bacterial soap.
